With each story that hits the news with respect to politicians and their arrogance, I wonder where this country is headed? Most recently Governor Spitzer. I have the feeling that most of these elected officials think we the citizens that elect them have the IQ of a turnip. Elected officials feel they can do whatever they want and their fellow elected officials will protect them. Politicians feel it is ok to pass new legislation that will control our lives but exempt themselves from the same rules.
What upsets me most about Gov. Spitzer it that some deal has most likely been reached to keep him from ever being prosecuted for the crime he committed. Yet given the same circumstances the average citizen who is not a politician would not been given that consideration. Do not miss understand me I feel anyone caught in Gov. Spitzers situation should pay, the question is what makes him any better than you or I?
Yet I feel with each Elected official that gets away with illegal activity and only receives a slap on the back and a that a boy or girl emboldens others to do the same. I just cannot understand why voters keep placing these people back in office.
I understand that in many cases the choice we have for a given office is limited and often it is a choice between the lesser of two evils. However, we as the voting public must do something to reverse this trend or it will continue to get worse at our expense.
